PREREQUISITES: NONE
This is a 32-35 hour entry level course for the new fire fighter or recruit. It can also be used by experienced firefighters who need a refresher course. The course will teach the basics of interagency fire fighting, incident command system, locating the fire, wildland fire behavior, strategy and tactics, equipment use, and fire safety. A four hour hands-on field exercise will include; portable pump and hose lay use, fire shelter deployment, handline construction, hand tool maintenance, and weather observations.
This course meets the requirements for S130, Basic Wildland Firefighting, and S190, Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior. L180, Human Factors on the Fireline is also included in this course. I100, Introduction to the Incident Command System may be included.
Special requirements: For the field day, students will need; hard hat, gloves, and workboots.
Completion of this course or equivalent will be a requirement prior to working on state or federal fires.
