S-230/S-231 Crew Boss/Engine Boss
Course Schedule
Crew Boss (S-230) is a 24 hour course which provides training for potential crew bosses for supervisory positions in the incident command system organization. Subjects covered include fireline safety duties, placement of the crew in the fireline organization, crew boss or incident commander as a leader including responsibilities and duties, crew boss or incident commander fireline tactics, fire as a tool of suppression, crew boss duties of a large crew on a multi-leader or complex fire, and property accountability and off shift responsibility. Emphasis is on managing suppression crew.
Engine Boss (S-231) is a 24 hour course which provides training for potential crew bosses for supervisory positions in the incident command system organization. Subjects covered include fireline safety duties, placement of the crew in the fireline organization, crew boss or incident commander as a leader including responsibilities and duties, crew boss or incident commander fireline tactics, fire as a tool of suppression, crew boss duties of a large crew on a multi- leader or complex fire, and property accountablility and off shift responsibility. Emphasis is on managing an engine crew.
This course may also include Dozer Boss (S-232). Please check with the course coordinator.
Prerequisites include FFT1, S-290 & Basic Wildland Firefighting or equivalent (S-130, S-190, & I-100). This class is suggested for those individuals planning to serve as any of the single resource bosses.
